Edgar Allan Poe

An American author, poet, editor and literary critic. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.

As a favorite and an inspiration for the latest..

The Masque of the Red Death

THE "Red Death" had long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was its Avatar and its seal -- the redness and the horror of blood. There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men. And the whole seizure, progress and termination of the disease, were the incidents of half an hour....E.A.P.

Miniature clay Poe holds a raven (for which he's famously known for) and he stands on a pool of blood coming from the paper mache oval box which was collaged with pages from the actual short story. A red skeleton in the front with the author's name and "red death" collaged; also the short story's title. The box appears to have blood dripping down and cuttings have been placed around to emphasize the horror story. A small Gothic picket fence on the back top and the bottom of the box has a felt covering making this piece stand 7 inches tall.
Sold within 8 minutes of being listed this miniature is sure to make a Poe fan really happy!!
