french chair...

ok, first of all i bow my head to those that upholster furniture because that is some tedious task!!
i wanted to add an accent chair to the living room and leaned towards wanted a wingback chair. i needed a leather/ leather liked one since i have two MALE doggies that like to "out-do" each other if you know what i mean....
i was surprised to see the prices of brand new ones, so the little crafter in me began looking at tutorials at pinterest and the hunt began. i got a $50 chair from craiglist and every night after work removed staples, and it sure had a ton of them. NOTE: for the inexperienced like me get a staple remover and LOTS of patience and don't get surprised if the battle wounds begin here, i sure got a few at this stage.
ok, didn't take too many photos and the ones i took were taken at night time, so sorry in advance!

as you can see ugly pink and dirty
but with good bones...

everything was taken apart carefully, to use as a pattern for the new fabric.

i painted the legs and finished them with wipe on poly. added brand new basting to the whole chair. got some basic black fabric, a pretty french script one from hobby lobby and a leather like fabric (on sale at Joanne's $4 yard), ply grips, tacks and strips, mallet, staple gun and got to work...
the upholstery supplies i bought online at DIY Upholstery

impressed...

i was...

the outer side wings were the biggest challenge, i almost threw in the towel, but persisted
i used the same cord of the old chair to do the decorative piping...
n no special foot was needed for the sewing machine

here is where the chair went up in class...

added decorative tacks, the cushion was last and......
tadaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the chair was a hit during the Christmas party we had and the pups love it, it has become one of their favorite sleeping spots.
next is a custom ottoman to match it since i have plenty of fabric left over and i have a some vintage wooden legs i bought from my last "picking" trip.
how do you like for a first time???
