here is the "official" intro to las gitanitas.
these boho dolls are made of the natural cotton fabric i love. besides their smaller size (approx. 10 inches) they wear a pillow style dress; i wanted these dolls to be simple and cute.
the doll line was inspired by the "bohemian" style, i'm not talking about clothing, but by the lifestyle it self. gitanas which is gypsy in spanish are nomadic/ free spirited people or persons; just what the "bohemian style" has come to be known for. the best i see this "spirit" represented is in the multi-cultural pot that is Miami, my hometown, where you see on any particular day people from all over the world in various setting in a positive and collaborative way and it's just refreshing considering all the negativity around the globe.
also, the reason i wanted the dolls to be simple is for them to awakens the imagination of the little ones and for them to be able to go everywhere with them too...
now, with no further delay here is the first prototype....
Hope
hand embroidered face, love the hair!!
(** NOTE** i say prototype because it's the first doll and it does have some irregularities, hardly noticeable considering it's a handmade doll, but as an honest artist i must disclose it!)
as you see she comes with an eye of god, another art form i have come to love. if you have no idea what it is, it is a yarn weaving with a beautiful history which is a must read! but, it has a spiritual past and was used as a blessing object and gift, for protection, as a meditation object, a spiritual ritual tool, just to name a few.... so read the history...
here is the second gitanita Eva
she also comes with an eye of god. but other's will come with a mini weaving or macrame, will see...
so any feedback or comments please! are more than welcome. which or why do you like??
happy crafting,
Maria
